You might all know by now that Montel Williams show was canceled, but does any one know why?

jovial:

Thanks.

Great video.

Montel Williams has again shown why we need responsible reporting.

I'm sorry, but who the hell really cares about Heath Ledger when we have soldiers dying for the greed.

With all due respect to his family and fans. I'm sorry he died. But like Mr. Williams said 28 soldiers have died since Jan. 1st.

Where are there names and the tributes to them.

I applaud you Mr. Williams and would have been proud to serve under a man of your caliber.

To the ones who say he got what he deserved for not following the script.

Wake up and smell the coffee he was doing what any real patriotic former soldier would do.

Shining the light on the darkness this administration is trying to keep hidden.

Stand Proud Mr. Williams.

God Bless you.

Fair enough cowboygrandpa,

Can you name any of the 28 soldiers who have died since Jan. 1? Our soldiers would stop shedding blood over there if back home we did not have greedy politicians in Washington getting richer because they need troops over there to artificially inflate the price of oil back home.

You are spot on, cowboy, cause I cannot name any of them either. Great comments, cowboy.

The names of almost all soldiers that have sacrificed their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan (and for that matter in other related global operations) can be found (hopefully reliably- i havent checked accuracy of information to claim so but seems proper source based on DOD updates) for example for Jan 2008 from;

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/...

A statistical study of the casualties since the start of the Iraqi campaign can be found at;

http://icasualties.org/oif/

For a proper way to see all the lost soldiers follow links with dates from

http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/...

Out of respect for the soldiers and their families i think its only proper to personally follow the links and see the individual stories instead of placing names on a politically charged debate. I think Williams was not properly treated but it comes as no surpise considering the place it occured.

Soldiers die for their country and in the vast majority of the cases for matters of principle and through honorable conduct.Can you offer anything more to your fellow citizens? It will always be our responsibility to invest proper effort before wars start and while they occur to minimize or avoid totally those deaths by selecting rational alternatives. When all routes have been fully exhausted and only then the sacrifice ought to become a necessity but it better initiate a long term productive endgame that will validate the loss and reclaim the glory in time through valid improvements of our planet. At the end of the day if wars are done to advance material wealth , facilitate political games and disorient world from vastly more important issues i can think of no worse way to exploit the lives of brave men or women and their families that gave us with profound humility their most precious. The question is then simple. They defended our rights . In what ways we defend their memory?

avatar

Victims are not simply the 4k soldiers and 40k wounded or the multiple casualties of the Iraqi side civilians and not. It is not at all my intention to insult the memory of the soldiers by what i say next. I am prepared to claim that the true victims of wars like iraq that extend so massively our resources and focus our material investments are far more than those people assumed. When 300 bil$ and our daily attention is focused on death and misery for the past 5 years we dont lose just the soldiers. We lose hundred thousands more nobody ever notices. Every time we ignore advancement opportunities in science, technology and economy that can minimize victims across all society and improve life through environmental protection or reduction of accidents-health related deaths & poverty , enhancement of education etc we indeed lose a lot more to our blinded priorities. What is the true human cost of a decade immersed in depressed objectives at the peril of vastly more pressing issues?

Where's the accurate count for innocent Iraqis killed by the imperial US?

avatar
Reply

Not very sure about acccuracy but the same site i linked offers estimates and some news backed numbers;

http://icasualties.org/oif/IraqiDeaths.aspx

The real issue is how many people die due to the war in general but not directly therefore not immediately attributed to it. Eg. the focus on a resources intensive engagement such as a war or the environmental impact of it ultimately lead to worse losses.

Just a tiny unrelated example;

At least 50% of more than 500000 cancer deaths in US in 2007 can be attributed to poor diet, physical inactivity, exposure to tobacco products or other chemicals and lack of regular cancer screening tests. Clearly even if a campaign to attack that 50% cases was only 10% effective it could reduce 25k deaths annually dwarfing any terrorism related deaths at a fraction of the cost... There are hundreds such examples for a society that doesnt prioritize logically. We are that society and our news show it. We simply dont care enough to focus.

It all comes back to proper investing of resources. If you have to short term bankrupt an economy at least do it by investing heavily in its science, technology , health care , education etc so that in the end you will recover it all back tenfold. You know it all sounds too simplistic and overly used in speeches but its hard truth. If you have to fight for oil for instance and spend 1 tril of your economy having huge energy costs (due to expensive oil) by maintaining global instability with prolonged hostilities that are not originally dealt with substantial intellectual effort , it might actually make more sense to avoid it altogether and spend that 1 tril funding energy research with the same intensity you once devoted to putting a man on the moon. Proper investment in the right topics doesnt mean you become weak in defense. Superior technology benefits every aspect of your society including defense and especially economy, environment and quality of daily life!

Upon further investigation of Montels firing it looks like CBS were the ones that did not renew his contract. This article stretches the truth imo.

avatar
Reply

The article may stretch the truth, but I appreciate it greatly., it substantially raised my opinion of Montel Williams, which unfortunately had been low.

avatar
Reply

Yah, CBS caved on Rather for the right wing and Dumya's image pretty quick too! Seems to indicate that CBS ultimately is not as leftist as Fox would have you believe.

avatar
Reply

Montel wasn't there when the show returned from the commercial.

avatar
Reply

A) A closer look tells you its actually CBS that did not renew his contract, not FOX.

B) Fox television is not Fox News! Do you idiots think "24" is on Fox News?

Liberal bias at its lying, dishonest best!

Man - are you so embittered and cynical that you simply can't abide honest criticism of The Republican Media Station - FOX?

Maybe it's _you_ that doesn't have the facts - or it's _you_ who is the idiot liar?

"Then, just 4 days after he insulted Fox News by insisting that they support the troops and give them more coverage, a number of stations owned by Fox decided against renewing his show for another year. It was a rather heavy-handed punishment even Sylvia Brown didn't see coming, but was done to send a clear message."

See, No Spin?, Many stations carry the Montel Williams show - many FOX stations. When they started canceling, it made it a lot easier for CBS to cancel - especially with Montel's health and ratings in decline.

See?

Maybe _YOU'RE_ the idiot.

You said it RATINGS IN DECLINE, maybe there might be a reason there.

Let me guess, you are making the assumption that his populist views are contributing to a decline in viewership?

avatar

GUESS you are an ASSume...nope, show me a lot of other talk type shows, on 17 years, with a follwing still....Oprah,Regis and whats her name.....tonight show...that about sums it up. and what I would think to be your favorite...Jerry Springer...personally, I commend Montel for saying what he did, It may not be the only reason, nor even part of why he lost his show...it was contract renewal time.

LOL!!

You know ABANOCLA, I always know when someone doesn't base their politics on informed inquiry but rather picks a party based on whether it tolerates their own embitterment.

Think about it.

Who do you know that regularly insults others for their opinions?

Right, the Right Wingers on Propeller.

So, you can put in every 'cute' little put down or implied insult, but all it does is point out how little you care about the _content_ of what you believe in.

avatar

BTW, since it wasn't reported by the main stream media, and you know all about it, in your diatribe profile, why don't you provide a link to it in there? A real link to a non msm outlet, not say FREDS BLOGSPOT.com Also who might you have been 15 days ago before you were kicked out and came back as moron part 2?

"The Republican Media Station - FOX?"

Until you moonbats stop acting like Fox is out on some island, while not admitting CNN, PBS, NY Times, and just about EVERY OTHER MEDIA OUTLET is HORRIBLY liberaly biased, you just sound like a typical intellectually dishonest liberal to me.

avatar

Spin, no closer look needed, the article told you it was a CBS contract with fox affiliates that dropped out.

Second, did you not see the Fox News logo in the lower left of the U-Tube video?

What selective neglect and distortion on your part, so typical of you Faux Fox Facts (three Fs) supporters! Like Dumya's state of denial on real facts!

But keeps the important news off the air. Who the hell cares about Anna Nicole Smith I wasn't banging her so what do I care. Let her family and those who knew her take care of it privately.

I watched the show long ago. Read his book too. He talked about the 3 r's. Respect, restraint, responsibility, I think it was. I think it is decent advice. I didn't realize he was still on. I though he had some kind of disease or something, oh well, I better go read the article! Thanks J.

Maybe he knows too much? Little warning from Big Brother?

It's pretty obvious they wanted to shut him up. Fox censorship and bias is now only rivaled by CNN. Other than PBS and CSPAN there is not much left on TV or most mainstream media outlets to get the real news. The corporations that profit from war want to focus on Keith Ledger or Britney Spears -- supposedly for ratings. However, I don't even believe that. MOre people have been turning off Fox and CNN because they are getting tired of the same old cheap reporting.

I try to avoid those stations, because I do not want to support what they are doing to our nation. I applaud Montel. He deserves better than the spineless sycophants and bootlickers that make up the Fox gang.

Of course Faux wouldn't want a true vet.

They are more apt to take the Limp Paws and O'Reillys whose simplistic rants sit well with the uneducated who feel educated.

Would love to educate some of them personally.

Stand Tall Montel. Job well done.

I'm surprised that someone didn't jump up and shove a sock in Montell's mouth.

Damn tootin Fox News didn't want him to address this issue, and even more disgusting that they cancelled his show as the result of him DARING to voice an opinion.

Hells Bells, even during the Nam war we got the names of casualties on the news, saw them bringing the bodies home, etc. I guess out of sight, out of mind for this gutless, uncaring bunch of money grubbers.

I don't remember which magazine it was, (Time, Life) but in one issue they printed out the names and PICTURES of all of the American soldiers who had died in Vietnam that week. All 278 of them........

We do NOT have a free press in this country anymore.

Newsweek did it last fall.

The only one who cared enough to do that before was Garry Trudeau in "Doonesbury." Sad that the comics have to lead the reporting.

From medical marijuana to the Occupation of Iraq, Montel had (still has) the nads to speak the truth.

It's just sad that, in a nut shell, nobody gives a shlt about the people who are there, despite the lack of any good reason. The fact is, that they do serve, and by choice. They have to believe that what they're doing is right. Even if it isn't.

Interesting there was so much ado over this Imus character and the newscaster that said some kind of racial comment about Tiger Woods. All these people were up in arms about that. Now a Black man speaks out on the news that ignores the names of servicemen that died in this so called "war on terror" and he's banned without so much as a peep of indignation. I am waiting for the Imus supporters to chime in here.

avatar
Reply

I'm an Imus defender, I'm with you. This is the first I heard about this. I agree fully with him, who cares about the latest stars trials and tribulations. I care more about the servicemen and women who are doing their duty to serve our nation. Let's do what we need to bring them home safe.

Similar to what happened to Bill Maher and the Dixie Chicks.

And lets not forget about this one, a real gem:

Dan Rather, CBS News Anchor:

1. Given documents he thought were true (the facts were, the documents were not);

2. Failed to thoroughly investigate the facts;

3. Reported documents to the American people as true to make his case;

4. When confronted with the facts, apologized and launched an investigation;

5. Number of Americans dead: 0;

6. Fired as CBS News Anchor.

George W. Bush, President of the United States:

1. Given documents he thought were true;

2. Failed to thoroughly investigate the facts;

3. Reported documents to the American people as true to make his case;

4. When confronted with the facts, continued to report untruth (lie) and stonewalled any and all investigations;

5. Number of Americans dead: 3943 (and climbing);

6. Given second term as President of the United States as opposed to a jail term.

Outstanding post Jovial, thanks.
